Message Stick – NAIDOC Week 2025

NAIDOC Week, is conducted across Australia each 6 July – 13 July, to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous Communities, but by Australians, from all walks of life, and we have witnessed this many times in the past, with our staff and clients being involved with the communities they operate in. NAIDOC stands for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities and the acronym has since become the name of the week itself. The 2025 theme is: “The Next Generation, Strength Vision & Legacy”. It means to celebrate not only the achievements of the past, but the future, empowered by the strength of young leaders, the vision of communities, and the legacy of ancestors.

Please consider attending a NAIDOC Week activity or event. NAIDOC Week invites all to embrace Indigenous Culture. Be it in the form of: dance, (shaking a leg) storytelling, art, music, cuisine, (bush tucker) and or cultural presentations and further understanding of another part of “our shared Australian heritage”. It is considered a form of proto writing. Message Sticks are often commonly called letters by Aboriginal people.*
