What is your professional background?
I began my fire and rescue career at 18 (2021) with Queensland Fire and Rescue, where I worked as an Auxiliary Fire fighter. From there I was able to start as an ESO with CPA in 2023, working in the Oil and Gas industry.
Where are you working now?
I am working at Curragh Coal Mine, located in Blackwater Queensland.
What other Corporate Protection sites have you worked?
I have worked at QGC Woleebee Creek and Charlie Camp Grosmont
What are your primary responsibilities?
My primary responsibilities as an ESO at Curragh is responding to emergencies including, fires, rescues, incidents and assisting medical personnel with patients. I am required to maintain training and knowledge in firefighting, hazardous material management, atmospheric testing and maintaining emergency preparedness through developing response plans, conducting risk assessments and ensuring safety compliance onsite. Our site roles also involve a variety of KPI’s including Drug and Alcohol testing, speed surveillance, vehicle compliance and safety interactions.
What do you find most challenging or fulfilling in your role?
I find interacting with clients and other contractors on site to be the most fulfilling part of my role. Building strong working relationships has been highly beneficial, creating an environment that is both enjoyable and collaborative while still maintaining a high level of professionalism.
What do you find most challenging?
Initially, working away from home was one of the most challenging aspects of the role. However, over time, building strong relationships on site and establishing a consistent routine has made a significant difference. It has also given me a greater appreciation for my time at home, making it more intentional and meaningful.
And what do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym, spending time outdoors camping and travelling and most importantly, being with family and friends. I place a strong emphasis on maintaining a high level of fitness, not only to support my work but also to keep a consistent routine that benefits my overall wellbeing and mental health.
