We spoke with one of the Rescue Paramedics at Clermont where we provide a range of services to understand our operations at this critical site.

How long have we been operating at Clermont?

Corporate Protection Australia Health & Medical have been operating at Clermont since September 2023.

What is our role?

The Paramedics role on site is primarily Emergency Response to incidents. When there is not an Emergency the Paramedics are responsible for the wellbeing of all workers and visitors to the site, this includes treating any injuries or illnesses they may have. Another role the Paramedics have is health administration including organising Coal Board Medicals, medication declarations and assisting the return-to-work coordinator.

How many CPAHM staff work there?

We have 2 Full Time Rescue Paramedics working at Clermont.

What qualifications are required?

Qualified Paramedic with Certificate 3 in Emergency Response & Rescue, drug and alcohol testing, along with some other first aid and driving qualifications.

What are the challenges for our staff?

The site is quite unique being the only single pit Open Cut Coal mine in Queensland. Having a single pit means the Paramedics are escorted into the Mine during an emergency as access roads and ramps change almost daily in some areas.

What are the challenges for the manager on this service?

One of the main challenges for Clermont is when a Paramedic needs to be replaced when they are unwell, with the only travel option being a charter flight provided by Glencore. Organising conventional transport to get the Paramedic to site means a lot of logistical organisation in the background.

What do you see as our major achievements in recent times?

Having two Full Time Paramedics long term, with a few others also inducted for coverage.

How do you see the future?

The Clermont Mine will be heading for rehabilitation in the coming years when Coal production ceases. So, it will be an interesting time to see the changeover at Clermont Mine.
