Introduction

We spoke to Ricky, one of CPA Group’s team based in the Philippines.

I live in Panpanga, in the central part of Luzon, one of the main islands. I live quite a long way from the city, the traffic there is really bad.

I am visiting Head Office for the Kronos roll out and a handover from Mary.
Also, to meet our new Finance Manager Jonathan.
This is my second visit to Head Office.

What is your professional background?

I have been working as an accountant since graduation, prior to working for CPA Group I worked for Orica Mining Services at their manufacturing sites in the Philippines where they made explosives – they are now one of CPA Group’s clients. Doing stocktake in an explosives company is a bit stressful. Also when they do testing it was quite loud and shook the building.

Where are you working now?

I work from a home office as part of a team and I have been working for CPA Group for 5 years.

What are your primary responsibilities?

I handle payroll (very important!) – this has been my responsibility for the entire time. I work hand in hand with accounts receivable also but payroll is the main thing.

What do you find most challenging or fulfilling in your role?

My biggest challenge is dealing with employee pay problems. The nature of the business can be quite complex.  My greatest pride is when there are no payroll problems, no adjustments or mistakes. I like it when I am able to handle queries.

I am looking forward to having Kronos and hopefully t will address some of the issues we have had with EmpLive.

And what do you do in your spare time?

I just finished my study in July – I finished my Masters of Management at the university of the Philippines – I just received the news as I was on my way to Australia. I haven’t had a chance to celebrate yet!

I love playing sports like badminton, table tennis and volleyball – I am looking forward to having a bit more spare time. I need a rest, it was a long 2 years!!

What would your manager say?

My manager  is Jonathan but I have worked the longest with Mary who has just left, she is really nice. I hope she would say we are doing well.

Mary’s comment:

His dedication and loyalty are one of the many qualities I admire about him. Always have a positive outlook in work and life.
I can only say good things about Ricky. I miss working with him and if given a chance I won’t think twice to be his mentor and work with him again.
